ATV Safety for Agricultural Workers

Many farms have all terrain vehicles (ATVs) to get around with. Although valuable tools in many situations. ATVs can be extremely dangerous in the hands of an untrained person.

This booklet talks about the potential dangers when operating an ATV on the farm. It also outlines what personal protective gear should be worn and how to perform a pre-trip inspection. It gives the operator some ATV handling tips in various situations such as on hills and slopes, going through water and around sharp curves.

The Safe Movement of Agricultural Equipment on the Roadway

This manual will assist you in expanding your company safety program.

This popular booklet, which is in its second printing, gives safety tips for farmers moving equipment on the roadway, and provides an overview of the law. Sections of the Highway Traffic Act which pertains to moving equipment on the roadway have been included so that you can comply with the law before you leave the farm gate.

effort to educate and build awareness of the three primary acts which impact labour in this sector.
These Acts include: Employment Standards Act (ESA), Workplace Safety & Insurance Act (WSIA) and the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA).

In collecting the information contained in this package, the Farm Safety Association made every effort to provide materials that would be the most useful and relevant to any workplace in the development of an initial Health and Safety Program.

The intention of the package is to provide the support materials needed to start on the road to developing a strong health and safety culture for your working environment. Please note that this
package is by no means all-inclusive, but rather a stepping-stone in the right direction.

Health and Safety Guidelines for New and Experienced Tractor Operators

The Association over the years had developed several manuals regarding Tractor operation. During 2005 a new manual was produced to strengthen employers knowledge of tractor hazards and assist in establishing their workplace training program for tractor operation. Incidents involving tractors are still the single most hazardous and tragic in the farm workplace and account for more than 30% of the farm workplace fatalities. Many of these incidents could be avoided if parents and employers properly trained and supervised their family members and workers on safe operations of tractors. The agriculture sector provides “first jobs” for many young Canadians. These workers are exposed to a multitude of hazards, and often must work long hours under extreme weather conditions.
