Our Volunteers
Highlights: Many dedicated volunteers from across the province have contributed much time and effort to making the lives of those in Ontario’s rural communities safer…at home, at work and at play. During the first 10 months of 2009, volunteers from more than 20 county based volunteer associations have touched the lives of more than 51,000 people through their efforts. They have provided safety education to both children and adults through safety education, literature, demonstrations, safety days, radio ads, school visits, puppet shows and many other methods. Farm Safety Association is fortunate to have these enthusiastic people helping us to achieve our mission “To promote Safe, Healthy Workplaces and Lifestyles for the Agricultural, Horticultural and Landscaping Industries in Ontario.” From posting an SMV sign to coordinating a Kids’ Safety Day, each and every effort contributes to developing a strong safety culture in our communities. A Volunteer County Association Milestone! January 14, 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of the first meeting of Waterloo Farm and Home Safety Association. Their initial meeting was held January 14, 1960 at the Ministry of Agriculture office in Waterloo. The group has seen many changes throughout the years but their message has remained constant. The associations many volunteers have continued to focus on farm safety for children and family farms through school visits and programs, displays and poster contests. Come see them in action at their Annual Spring Rally in support of Canadian Agricultural Safety Week, March 25th, 2010, 7:30pm at St. Jacob’s Community Center. As a special highlight, it is hoped that one of the founding members of Waterloo FSA, Mr. Bruce Wittmer will be in attendance at this special event. Please join us in congratulating Waterloo Farm and Home Safety Association for 50 years of dedication and commitment to spreading the message of safety in their local community! We have volunteers making a difference in each of the following counties:
Our volunteer groups across the province are always looking for individuals who can help make a difference in their county and community. There are many different ways you can help. Serving food at a safety day for kids, packing goody bags, teaching a safety topic, posting SMV signs, transporting display booths, sharing your own survival story – there are many ways to help. You can contribute to a single event or offer to help out on a more regular basis. It’s up to you… We appreciate the help of all our volunteers. We welcome you to help Farm Safety Volunteers spread safety culture throughout our rural communities. Click
