Farm Safety Association
The Farm
Safety Association (FSA) is a not-for-profit corporation established in
1973 and is a “designated entity” under the Workplace Safety
& Insurance
Act (WSIA). The Association vision is the elimination of all workplace
injuries and illnesses in the provinces Agricultural Industrial Sector,
as the industry’s primary source of Occupational Health and Safety
education and awareness. As one of Ontario’s health and safety associations,
primary funding is through employer’s premiums paid to the Workplace
Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). Our members are firms which pay
WSIB premiums as Agricultural employers which includes Agriculture, horticulture
and landscaping.
What
We Do
FSA
supports industry and government in developing standards, procedures and
regulations to improve health and safety for the Agriculture Industrial
Sector. FSA offers a broad range of print, video and digital products
and services including training and consultation. These include a newsletter
(FARMSAFE), statistical information, and guideline
reporting forms.
Ontario’s
Health and Safety System.
The system includes
three partners: the Workplace
Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), the Ministry of Labour ( MOL) and
the Health and safety Associations (HSAs) that serve the 12 specific industrial
sectors. FSA is the HSA for the Ontario Agricultural industry. All employers
registered with the WSIB in a Agricultural rate group are members of FSA.
For our members, most of our products and training are available at no
charge or minimal cost recovery.

Safe workplaces not
only mean better health and quality of life for workers, they also mean
more profitable business and lower premiums for employers.
The FSA goal is:
- to help our companies
build productive and effective workplace relationships so that the Internal
Responsibility System in their workplace operates to its highest potential,
and
- to act as a resource
through our services and products which will enable member workplaces
to improve their safety performance.
